Review from "Hotel Reviews Ireland"
A friend of mine said recently that she had stayed in The Fairview in Killarney and liked her room so much she wanted to live in it! Good omen, I thought as I drove out to check out a small hotel that has been gaining a big reputation.
Local people are coming in their droves to the restaurant, and tourists are keen to stay in the centre of town in a comfortable guesthouse with all the comforts of a top hotel. So, I arrived with some expectations.
Accommodation at the Fairview - I received a very friendly welcome and was delighted with my room. Each is individually appointed, and mine had a large comfortable bed, a plasma screen television, a jacuzzi bath, separate power-shower, a comfortable sitting area with sofa and a lovely view out over the town. One of the most interesting things about this hotel is that each of the rooms is different, and therefore the price structure can accommodate all pockets. The real jewel in their crown is the penthouse, which is very luxurious with views over the Kerry mountains. Having arrived early, I just settled in to my comfortable room for the afternoon enjoying a mix of some work and some newspaper reading. It was a Sunday after all!
Dining at the Fairview - Dinner was anticipated with some excitement, and when my dining companion arrived we did spend time over the menu. There were nine starter choices and we settle for the Smoked and Marinated Salmon with Prawn Wonton, Mango Salsa and Coriander Crème Fraiche for guest; and my absolutely delicious Chargrilled Tuna with an Asian Salad and Sweet Chilli Dressing. While both were very good and generous, I have to say that my tuna was seared to perfection and was one of the best starters I have ever enjoyed. For the mains we went all fish again, with monkfish and sea-bass respectively, but could have tried lamb, duck, chicken, beef and several other tempting choices. The chef here is a young lady called Laura, and her cooking is both generous and sophisticated. Yes, the food was good – very good.
Location of Fairview - Another thing we liked about this hotel is that while it is the centre of Killarney – Ireland’s tourist capital – it is still quiet enough to go out and enjoy the locality. Just about everything is within walking distance. It is an ideal location while staying in Killarney. We were impressed with The Fairview, it attends to so many important details for the guest. Complementary parking, internet facilities, robes and water, iron and good toiletries; in fact this hotel provides all that you would expect in a larger establishment. Yet it maintains its friendly individual character. We also noted that they have wheelchair facilities throughout. A thoughtful hotel indeed! This is one that bigger hotels could learn a thing or two from! |
Letters to the Fairview
| All hotels should be like this – fabulous............Catherine Laicu, Florida, USA. |
| The Fairview guesthouse is exceptional. My wife and I stayed here for two nights during our five week holiday in the UK and Ireland. This was undoubtedly the cleanest most appealing place that we stayed during our entire holiday. The place just oozes class from the moment you step through the door. We have never stayed in a guest house before as we mainly stick to the larger chain type hotels. This was a great change. The room was nothing short of luxurious, with polished wooden floors, very nice furniture and heating controlled from within your room. The breakfast was sensational – cooked to order with fresh local produce. The best breakfast we had in Ireland. The Fairview Guesthouse was in many ways the highlight of our stay in Ireland. It has a great location and is right in the town centre of Killarney, where you can have a short walk to a myriad of restaurants and pubs for dinner. Highly recommended, A+ from us............A TripAdvisor Member, Townsville, Queensland. |
